Hippie New Year

Hippie new year, everyone. Let it be resolved:

  • Eat more vegetables
  • Use the word “gigantor”
  • Say “grok” and “irregardless” in the same sentence
  • GOWAD – Gallon of Water a Day
  • GONAD – Gallon of Nutmilk a Day
  • Gett swole
  • Ferment more vegetables
  • Smoke gigantor blunts (honestly this post is made sober, I’m way weirder sober than I am on drugs)
  • Photograph ordinary birds (the creatures, not women)
  • Be nicer to people

Arsenal beat Fulham today and the hashtag was #ARSFUL which was appropos because we let them have an arsful of big chances, they let us have an arsful of big chances and we scored an arsful of goals. You can read all about that over on The Arsenal Review later today.

Hope you have an arsful of whatever you want this year.

  1. Love this blog.Top marks for using apropos – you should have a basic grasp of Latin if you’re going to blog about Arsenal after all.Another reason why this blog is the best.

  2. Hey doc, from last thread, you don’t introduce guesswork into a discussion and ask someone to prove that your theory spun out of thin air is wrong. Just saying.

Happy New year, Tim and community.

Let’s be honest… we have too many players short of the quality we need to get where we want to go. Xhaka plays every game, but I dunno man. I try to like him asa player, but I can’t. While he has had good games this season (and I readily acknowledged when he did), he is simply not a very good midfielder at the end of the day in my opinion. Slow, defensively dim, doesn’t read the gam, a niggly/tuggy play who’s a throwback to 1990s mid-table Serie A. In fact, I think that Italian ball is his best fit.

Iwobi is much improved and provides real penetration, but is woeful in front of goal for a forward for a top class team. Mustafi is good on some things he does, long passes well from the back, is a threat at set pieces, and can look superb in some games; but he slides all over the place and has the positional sense of a baby seal.

See the theme? They’re good players, not good enough players. And they get a lot of play time. I could say the the same about Mkhitaryan. We are a team with too many 60% guys. We are going to struggle to get anywhere, until we inject real quality like we did with PEA.

In Lacazette (and Ozil and Ramsey), we DO have 3 world class players. But we have either pushed out, are pushing out, or in Laca’s case are alienating in a way that I dont think is smart. Laca made a point of welcoming and helping to integrate Aubameyang. Emery shouldn’t act as if we have a single striker superstar and a support cast. And sometimes, Laca is the best forward play on the pitch when he’s withdrawn. I liked Laca’s reaction yesterday, but Emery is killing his soul. If this continues, Laca will demand a trade.

And back to Doc’s point about a possible injury… he played the full 90 in a dead rubber fixture since the interlull, which he did miss through injury.

I like Emery, I wish him a long stay, and understand the squad limitations he has to work within. But some of his decisions I find to be odd. I certainly don’t think that having 3 of your best creative players in positions of varying degrees of humpiness is smart management.
