Fabregas gives an interview, the Sun is there: everyone panic

It is the official policy of 7amkickoff.com and its affiliates to never, never ever, under any circumstance link to any article published in The Sun. This is because The Sun is a steaming pile of Tottenham. There’s tabloid journalism and then there’s The Sun, the paper which defined tabloid journalism. The “paper” which to this day is an open sore on the anus of society.

So, why, THE FUCK, are people reading their interview with Cesc Fabregas and getting all stoopid?

It’s incredible, really. Just 13 days ago, the Sun printed a direct quote from the man saying that he’s not leaving. Then on the 17th, there’s the official denial from the Captain on the dot com. No door had been opened here folks, Cesc Fabregas is NOT leaving for Real Madrid.

Nor had he said anything different than what he has said all summer: he’s frustrated that Arsenal haven’t won anything, he wants the boss to sign some big name players, he’s not leaving, Phil Brown is a convicted liar, he’s not leaving, he’s frustrated that he hasn’t won anything, but he knows that this team has a lot of potential and is ready to break out into something really big.

So, can we just stop? I know that it’s a certain personality that becomes an Arsenal supporter, but for once, just put down all of your nueroses, all of your “I KNOW WHAT’S BEST/WHAT’S REALLY HAPPENING” bullshiat and just look at the story rationally. And you can start by reading the translated quotes here.

Fabregas is not going anywhere.

Full stop.

USA! USA! USA!

I love it when I’m right.

Well, I was partially right. As someone pointed out yesterday, Cesc will probably play in Sunday’s consolation match, which means that he doesn’t get to go home and get started on his vacation and be all rested before training camp kicks off. Oh well.

I taped the match in high def (thanks to ESPN) and it looked amazing. I can’t wait for ESPN to broadcast EPL games in HD next year.*

Also, is it my imagination or did the USA play an 8-0-2? I mean, they looked downright Bolton-esque in that win didn’t they? That’s a lot of fun to watch, isn’t it?

Given their tactical deficiencies and utter lack of talent I doubt they will be able to pull off another win against Brazil on Sunday (assuming Brazil can beat South Africa today!) but who knows . After all, international football is probably the most suceptible to the “smash and grab” tactics of teams like Bolton, owing to the facts that the international squads practice together so rarely and that tournaments are one and done. I mean, if they played a best of 5 or even a best of 3 Spain would win, I have no doubt.

Spain would win because Cesc looked great out there; running his ass off, putting in long balls, short balls, chips, easy passes, inch perfect passes, good tackles, man marking, basically everything he wasn’t doing well for Arsenal last year. And if he had a world class striker on the pitch, like Eduardo, Spain would have won 2 or even 3 to nil. Instead he had the world’s most overrated goal poacher on the pitch, who basically made a hash of every Fabregas pass. A guy who requires 30 some shots to get 3 goals! A guy who puts more shots wide than on target! A man… hey… like Adebayor! Let’s break the bank and bring him in!

When you have a second you should go to FIFA’s web site and look at their comical “Castrol Index” this is the index that gives Felipe Melo a ranking of 8th in the tournament and, despite the fact that Cesc has two assists and a goal, gives Fabregas a ranking of 52nd. All you need to know is that they ranked David Villa over Fernando Torres, but hey, whatever.

Adebayor

Milan is supposedly interested in Arsenal’s David Villa. Meh…

*while this is speculation it at least has a kernel of truth, which the ‘Cesc thinks Arsenal sucks and is leaving for Real Madrid’ stories do not.

  1. While I agree with your points re Cesc the one thing that worried me are his comments concerning the spirit at The Arse. We have always prided ourselves on the tremendous team spirit at the club and I just wonder if this is the reason we have not been winning trophies (which doesn’t bother me that much – I love Arsenal NOT the trophies). It does not look like these comments will go very far in improving the spirit and that worries me. He is our captain after all.

  2. oh just read the reset and I need to ask…. where do ESPN have a HDchannel? Got sky but only have ESPN classic on there or is the ESPN HD abroad?

  3. Further to media reports on Thursday morning, Cesc Fabregas has spoken to Arsenal.com:

“I’m not sure how many times I need to talk directly about my commitment to Arsenal as I continue to say the same thing over and over again, but it appears that every time I have spoken to the Spanish media recently, my words have bounced back to England, leaving question marks about my future.

“So, for anyone who is unclear or may have misunderstood what my position is, let me make myself absolutely crystal clear. I am wholeheartedly committed to Arsenal and my future lies with this great Club.

“It is a fact that we have not won a trophy for four years and yes, I am angry about that, but that anger stems from the deep deep desire I have to win things with Arsenal. I care about this Club and believe in this team. I
am proud to captain this team and proud to wear the shirt. It really upsets me when people express my thoughts otherwise. The spirit in this squad is fantastic and we have the ability and mentality to compete on all fronts for silverware. Make no mistake, we are focussed and determined to show that we are capable of achieving great things together.”

  5. Our captain was simply comparing the spirit within a team on a 35 game record breaking streak to that at a four year trophyless club; could he say anything wrong? Remember in the same article he says if he wanted to live he would say it straight without using the media to help get him out.
Though i don’t know whether he knew the impact of his words n how they could be twisted! Eitherway brace yoselves 4 sxxx………

  6. Don’t ever believe what you read from the SUN as they are all shite and I wonder why some people even bother waste their time reading from such degraded, Totscum related tabloid… I believe in the spirit of the team and I actually know we are heading in the right direction and hopefully come May 2010, a Trophy will be added to the Armoury. Go The Gooners!!!

    I remain a GUNNER 4 LIFE…

  7. Dont you dare to make fun of the Castrol Index, Le Boss helped to design it.:-).
Re:cesc, Ill look into the original interview in spanish and will make a thorough translation. It’s incredible the damage that a mistranslated word can do.

  8. I attended the Mexico-Venezuela game last night in Atlanta and Vela as usual was awesome and scored the 1st. I know that Mexico plays in the somewhat weak CONCACAF region, but every time I see him play at the International level he is very dominant. Just can’t figure why he was so underutilized for Arsenal last season.

We have the frickin Hope diamond covered in a sack cloth and all we need to do to release it is cut the strings. For me, Vela is a guaranteed star barring injury.

Dos Santos of the Spuds also played and scored a brace.

On to the Cesc rumors. I would even bother to waste my breath by commenting on them, He will be our Captain this season, 100%. Now, let’s just sell Ade and bring in a “real” GK, dominant DM and Jo from City.

  9. Spain really bollocksed that game didn’t they? I hate the USMNT – really I do – but they bget credit for taking their chances. In truth, Spain had more opportunities, though they did look a bit more dissheveled than usual. Spain picked a hell of a time to have an off-day. Torres was putting the ball everywhere but in the goal, Villa was non-existent for the 2nd half and he looked like he had some point to prove by trying to win it by himself in the opening 45, Ramos couldn’t cross the ball to save his life, Xavi got contained hard, Alonso showed pretty much what I’ve always thought – he’s not a CM, despite what people who want him to sign for Arsenal think. Del Bosque needed a Marcos Senna to anchor the midfield, not Xabi Alonso – it’s Macherano that make Alonso look as good as he does, it’s not entirely of his own merit.

The US just looked good on the counterattack after Ramos bombed up front, screwed up and couldn’t get back in time. Bradley played a risky gameplan but it paid off in the end, whereas Del Bosque made the wrong subs and wrong tactics. Cesc looked one of the better Spain players on the field, yet he was subbed when really Villa should have come off a long time ago for someone like Llorente.

The US defense held up well after Spain laid seige to their goal though. Onyewu and Demerit where were they needed to be at the right times and some good athleticism and a bit of desperate defensing locked pit Spain’s attacks. Overall it was a tacical win by the US, but I don’t expect them to suddenly be a top nation in the WC – they played like crap for the group stages and whether sheer luck or voodoo, their opponents folded on the day they could have been eliminated.

  10. why do people even bother with these articles on cesc specially when it’s being reported by tabloids? this happens year after year! one would think that after the first few times, people would stop paying attention. but nooooo! just how f***ing dumb are these fans? or maybe they are just sh*t bored. i can just imagine cesc one day saying “you know what? f*** it. i dont want to explain myself anymore, im packing my bags for barthelona and ending this sh*t once and for all”. people – paranoia will kill ya! stop reading junk like the sun, notw and the daily mail. missing football? go kick a ball around in the park. not possible? how about fifa 09 on your xbox or ps3? still not possible? go pick up a proper football magazine… but ffs stop paying attention to the tabloids!

  11. Melo is having a nightmare game; lazy, useless passes, no sight of his famed heading ability, early yellow… you know who he reminds me of? Song.

  12. Old Song, no the new and improved Song 2.0. Well…. dani alves saved the day for brazil. That’s what usually happens when you have tons of posession and don’t score.

Im searching for cesc’s interview, and according to http://www.telecinco.es and http://www.as.com, the original interview was for the sun (I can put the link, but is against Tim’s policy:P)

So, no translation problems there, as far as I can see.

If any of you have any links with interviews or whatever in spanish, dont hesitate to put them here.

  13. Guys, I’m not prepared to just ignore Cesc’s comments, clearly he’s less than happy at the moment, but it also needs to be taken in context that this was Spain’s first loss in 30 plus games and he was likely upset about that to a greater degree. What is disappointing is that other news sites have substantiated Cesc’s comments and this double-talk has happened before. Some of it is media stirring that is certain, but Cesc is just adding fuel to the fire and from one perspective it could look as if he wants madrid to rescue him. I’ll say it again, a 21 year old captain was not the greatest idea, cesc should be more mindful of the effect of his comments. If the word ‘impotence’ was used i think that would be the first time in Arsenals 120 year history that an Arsenal captain has used that word to describe his team publicly. Either way you look at it, it was not the smartest move.

As for melo, he’s a fine player, certainly has more game than many of our younger players but 15 mil does seem a bit steep for him, that said i would take him certainly if Senderos can be part of the deal.

  14. Old Song, no the new and improved Song 2.0. Well…. dani alves saved the day for brazil. That’s what usually happens when you have tons of posession and don’t score.

  15. Sorry for that. I posted earlier and wordpress replied that my comment was waiting moderation. Anyway. I looked into “as” and “telecinco”, and they both state that cesc’s interview was with the sun. So no translation problems there.

If you find anything that might be interesting to translate from the original in spanish, dont hestitate to give me a shout.
