He loves us, he really, really loves us!

I'm thinking of a mineral.

Arsene Wenger IS NOT leaving.

As I was perusing the morning news stories, feeling smug in my knowledge that Wenger was going no where, I tried to imagine what it would have been like if I woke up this morning and read a headline like… Wenger Releases Statement: I Need to Fulfil My Real Dream! and I could only come up with one word: Football Apocalypse.

Now, I realize that technically that’s two words but if you squash them together real close using negative kerning you get something like ‘footballapocalypse’ which pretty much sums up how I felt. I wondered if I’d even bother carrying on as an Arsenal blogger, I mean, what would be the point? Arsene Wenger is all I’ve known as an Arsenal supporter and to have him leave like that would be devastating.

Thankfully, we don’t have to worry about this until next year when some prat stands up at the shareholder’s meeting and suddenly thinks he’s talking to one of his mates at the pub and lets out some stream of stupidity. Then we get to do this all over again.

Just to recap what Arsene Wenger has done:

3 EPL Titles — the same number that Chelsea has had in their entire history
4 FA Cups — the same number that Chelsea has had in their entire history
4 Community Shields — one more than Chelsea has had in their entire history
Champions League Runners-up
UEFA Cup Runners-up

And this year he took a team of rag tag youths and half legged geriatric Suburbans and got them to the semi-final of the FA Cup and the Champions league. All the while spending about as much money as it would cost to feed the team at Denny’s.

Let’s face it, Arsene Wenger is the best thing that has ever happened to this club. Someone should throw a parade.

Eduardo Setback

The club released an official statement that Eduardo has had to have “simple revision surgery” on the ankle that Martin Taylor tried to destroy. Follow up surgeries are routine and I’m thinking this is a great time to do this. Yes, he’ll miss scoring a dozen world class goals for Croatia, but it means he’ll be back and 100% just in time for pre-season.

On to the important stuff

Thierry Henry is racing to be fit to face Man U in the finals and I’m rooting for him to be so well rested that he comes in, scores a hat trick, and finishes the game with a shot so thunderous that when it ricochets off the post it decapitates Rayne Looney, kneecaps Cronolda, and finds its final resting place in Sir Alex Ferguson’s nutsack.

I’ll be at Doyle’s, wearing my Thierry Henry Arsenal strip.

And one final little bit of news. It turns out some new fangled news aggregator has picked up the blog and I’m now getting 3 times the number of hits per day. I basically jumped from 1000 hits a day to 3000 hits a day. This means, of course, that my loyal readers will be seeing a lot of new comments in the comment jar from people who don’t really understand my sense of humor and haven’t been reading the blog very long.

Let’s all try to get along as best we can and remember that I love you all like children — which means that I love some of you more than others but I would never say which ones, publicly.

  1. i dont understand your jokes mate.
joking! love the blog. keep it up.

  2. I think this scare over Wengers future will make the morons realise there is noone else who could manage this club better. His name will be sung the full 90mins on sunday. I hope the few seats on the ticket exchange are snapped up,we need a full stadium for the great man. His programme notes could end up being more interesting than the game

  3. I am a new follower of your blog. I like your blog because we share a lot of the same views and opinions pertaining to our beloved team.

    About the Eduardo official statement;

Man, i don’t know about you, but when i saw that i got a little scared. I was expecting “after numerous serious and minor injuries, Eduardo has decided it’d be best, for his family and his personal health, to hang up the boots and retire early.”

THANK GOD this was not the case.

    All hail Dudu.

  8. Great point Gareth, let’s get all the Gunners to sing Arsene Wenger’s name all 90 minutes on Sunday!

  9. Tim – the ‘real’ news was the 13 million pound limit that Wenger has to work with. Next season already smells like this season as far as the squad goes. The only hope is better luck with injuries, and hopefully a bit more maturity from the youth.
Who’s the best defender that 13M can buy?

  10. T-Town, I wrote about that supposed £13m limit the other day. Basically that was one story circulated by The Daily Mail which is a know mouthpiece for Usmanov.

Usmanov has a personal interest in making it look like Arsenal are poor or in need of his money. It’s not true. Arsenal have over £100m in cash reserves, Wenger can buy anyone he wants, except maybe David Villa, who we all know costs £130m, AND IS WORTH EVERY FARTHING

  11. By the way, did anybody really believe Arsene would trot off to Madrid over a spat with a couple of pissed-up and pist-off “shareolders”?The guy is a legend and knows it。
Will probably have his Ashburtons (ashes)scattered all over the Grove when he passes away.
Talking of legends, really do hope TH14 hoists up the cup in Rome。He may be the only reason I watch the game。Hate the both of them!

  12. I’m looking into it Gareth. It’s very strange. Maybe the spam filter doesn’t like the bigcok email address, try the unsername with a different address.

  13. Haha i set that up as a 2nd email address to get back on here lol thanks for going to the trouble but stil nothing.its fine anyway, you know who i am lol

  14. Someone here will be shouting for Barca, and TH!

My local butcher here in Spain asked me if I will support the Mancs?

    “No señor!” said I, “Barca!”.

He was confused, “why would an Englishman support Barc?” he wanted to know.

I asked him, “who will you support?”

    He says, “Barca!”

“But you are a Valencia supporter,” I reply.

“Si! but Valencia are not playing and Barca are Spanish!”

“What if it was unReal Madrid and not Barca,” I ask.

“That is different, I would support Manchester Untied!” he said.

    Viva!

  15. I sure notice that you are somehow a bit DIFF. from the other doomsday wanna bee’s / FALSE PROPHETS CAT UR SELVES SOMEWHERE. people should and they do ……know the immense influence THIS GREAT MAN HAS HAD ON OUR BELOVED CLUB.so any blind man who comes from the bush” HE HAS TO GO ”NEED NOT GET OUR ATTENTION CAUSE NONE WOULD EVEN HANDLE OUR UNDER 8’S BETTER THAN ‘BIG FILL’ MISMANAGED CHAVSKIS OR EVEN MUSH MORE TAKE THEM THROUGH A SIMPLE TRAINING SESSION…AT LEAST ……JUST SHUT THE *&*^$%# UP HE’S OUR GREATEST MANAGER AND YOU CAN DO NOTHING BOUT IT UNLESS YOU KISS MY …….YES!!!!!

  16. ok he doesnt spend much money in the transfer market but if u look at wages we do spend a lot! great that he is staying, knew he would, thanku lord wenger all true gooners love u. now lets get the takeova sorted out so we can reshuffle the board

  17. i never believed the story for a second. some of my arsenal loving friends sent me emails and links of all the rubbish stories with sentiments somewhere along the range of desperation: OH MY GOD WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!! to the slighly more optimistic, WE WILL BE LIKE OLIVER TWIST THROWN INTO THE STREETS WITH NO ONE BUT BIG BAD USMANOV TO TAKE CARE OF US!!! but honestly, these stories start to come out every year around this time and they are quite hilarious. i just dont see arsene leaving us until he has finished what he started unless we fans push him out. yes he has made a few mistakes thsi year but i think given how we started, we still had a pretty decent year and since arsene has singled out our defense as the one area where we are lacking, i do believe he will rectify them next year. i dont know about you guys, but im ready for the new season. BRING IT ON!

  18. have been reading 7amkickoff for awhile. from a fellow Yank Gooner from the East Coast, keep it up.

  19. Well tell me one manager whose first 4 letter of his name is the same as the club he manages…. Without ARSENE arsenal is gona be just a lonely …AL. Anyway I think toulalan is gona be a perfect buy for us as he is experienced and a great CDM, he impressed me in euro 2008… After ribery, he was the best player for France.

  20. I can’t fathom why some Arsenal supporters are calling for Wengers head when the culprit are the men inside the board room. They say if Arsene needs to have £30 million the board will find the money. Meaning selling somebody like Adebayor. Arsene was left to dry by the Board during the Q&A with some of the shareholders and fans. Nobody stepped in defense of Arsene. Over the Hill-Wood said that it was outright disrespectful how he was treated. What about lying to the fans and using our beloved manager as a shield. Now that is outright disrespectful.

  21. i doubt rosicky and dudu will be ready for the new season based on previous estimates for their return… end of aug..sept..oct..nov..dec..jan..feb..wohoo dudu come back, rosicky though still hasn’t. man i miss that hair bobbing up and down. Oh and one last note when he comes back he needs to shoot more

  22. Rosicky is already training with the 1st team. Looking forward to see him in Red and White again.

  23. I don’t think the away kits are THAT bad this year, it is basically the same as of 04-05 away kit, just with pinstripes. We have definitely had worse (see Arsenal Away Kit 1991-1993, and Arsenal Away kit 1982-1983).
