Arsenal 1-4 Chelsea; the Gibbs, the Heart, the Silvestre

Match Reports

You will need these for later:

Arsenal 4-4 Spuds

City 3-0 Arsenal

Villa 2-2 Arsenal

Liverpool 4-4 Arsenal

Arsenal 1-4 Chelsea

Fener 2-5 Arsenal

Arsenal 0-2 Villa

Burnley 2-0 Arsenal

Porto 2-0 Arsenal

Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea

Every one of those matches in which Arsenal have conceded 2 or more goals have one thing in common, do you know what that is?

The Gibbs

In my estimation, Young Gibbs was the only Arsenal player who played for the full 90 minutes. Song might have done, but Wenger withdrew him in the second half for Denilson, so the plaudits go to Gibbs: he kept his composure despite Chelsea’s constant attack through Drogba on him and even managed to put in some very good defensive plays.

The Heart

Wenger talks a lot about the heart of this team, how they never give up, how they have the mental resilience to overcome great obstacles, how they surprise their opponents with their perseverance. Either that is a load of bullshit or this team has finally cracked. Arsenal started very brightly and I really thought they wanted to win this match. But then, after they were handed a horrible diving decision that led to a yellow card for the captain and a free kick, the team simply gave up. Alex rose over Silvestre, nodded into the corner and Arsenal just quit. Well, the captain quit, Robin was trying for most of the game, Song bossed the midfield, Toure attacked, tracked, and generally tried to pump the team up, Gibbs has already been lauded, Sagna kept at it for a while, but the others seemed to just kind of throw in the towel.

Especially after Silvestre and Nasri conspired to give up the second to Anelka.

There are some very serious, very obvious, very glaring personnel problems in this team and I am now going to apologize to William Gallas: he was right, someone needs to kick these kids up the arse. I don’t want to turn this into another thread about how we need to bring in such and such because I’m tired of hearing that: hell, we had 2 hours of that today from the announcers. I just want Arsene Wenger to fix this. I don’t care how, JUST FIX IT.

It’s fucking broken.

The Silvestre

So, remember all those match reports in the first part? Those are all of the matches in which Arsenal conceded at least 2 goals.  In 10 matches this season, in all competitions, Arsenal have conceded 2 or more goals and they only have one thing in common: Mikael Silvestre. HE ONLY PLAYED IN 22 FUCKING GAMES ALL SEASON??@!?!?! How on earth is it that one man can be involved in so many horrible games? How?

Affix the tin-foil firmly…

Silvestre is the Manchurian candidate, a plant by Ferguson to utterly destroy Arsenal’s season.

The facts are indisputable: in the 22 games that Silvestre played, Arsenal gave up 34 goals. He played in every game that Arsenal gave up 2 or more goals, save one, Hull. The really, really crazy part is that he was involved in nearly every single goal in all those 22 games.

Letting Senderos go and bringing in Silvestre may be the biggest mistake of Arsene Wenger’s career.

Conclusion

Sorry for the outburst but I just watched utter shiate and I’m seething. Maybe I’ll be better in the morning.

I doubt it.

  1. Not much more to say Tim.

Lack of clinical finishing by incomplete players, Walcott, RVP, Cesc, Diaby.

Lack of defensive duties by Cesc, Diaby, Walcott, Nasri.

Like you, I’m merely tired of this shiat. Just FUCKING FIX IT Arsene.

If you can’t fix it Arsene, you become part of the problem. If you are part of the problem then you need to be removed.

  2. so things to do in the summer for wenger
1)buy joe hart and send fabiansky on loan spells
2)buy a strong new vierra type player instead of diaby
3)buy at least one centre half

  3. gooner sems

    You forgot one:

    4) Ship Silvestre off to Greece or some lower level club. Maybe there is a 2nd division French team who will take him.

And yes – it’s time to start knocking head together. I’m don’t mind them losing when they gave it everything. I cannot stomach watching them give up.

  4. Wow, interesting analysis Tim.

I’m not sure Silvestre was Fergie’s ‘agent provocateur’ but what he was was a panic buy and we all know, from bitter experience at the shops, what useless shit ‘panic buys’ usually turn out to be.

I also don’t know what has happened to Cesc – yes I do, he is being played out of position – but his head has gone too, since his injury. That team out there looked like it knew had got 4th place sewn up, been knocked out of the cups and said “OK, we’re on holiday now”. Their bags were packed, their towels were on the loungers and that attitude utterly sucks. There was a very outside chance of 3rd if we won, but none at all if we didn’t. They simply didn’t look bothered about that outside chance (except Bendtner, when he came on, too late – why did we not have 2 strikers on from the start?)

On that showing, Man Utd will chew us up and spit us out next week; and win the title in the process (they’ll stuff Wigan in midweek for sure). They will then be celebrating in front of our fans, rubbing it in our faces (not the players, of course, they get to hide in the dressing room) and we will have to sit there and say “well 4th is OK, look at our bad start and our injuries and we’re not half a trillion in debt blah blah blah” but they will be celebrating the Premier League title all up in our grill.

    Unless…

…we don’t let them, by turning up, giving our all, playing as a team and beating the fucking gloating turds so they have to do it the following week at Hull (hopefully also condemning the Stupid Orange Man to relegation).

  5. agreed on the silvestre point…I dont understand taking djourou out for silvestre, I dont understand what he offers that djourou doesnt. The time needed to aim a header into the top corner from 15 yards was given up by silvestre, there had to be more pressure there.
The second goal resulted from song being up the pitch, leaving a gapping hole in front of the defence. If we are going to be a 4-4-2 team, then the central midfield partnership needs to work together to defend. Fab was doing this well with flamini, why not with song?
I have faith in the talent of the squad, but there is clearly something going on in the dressing room…commitment is key, for the whole 90 minutes, not just until we concede a goal…

  6. I 100000% agree with you on this.

Sylvestre was the WORST purchase ever. When will a rival team give up an important member of their team to a rival? NEVER, (unless in like a A.Cole situation or lots of money). but for a mere 2million? NOBODY! He is obviously not championship team material, hence Ferggie let him go. The minute I heard of this transfer, I knew we were in for a rough ride. Why send off Senderos, and bring in a player that is far worst??? I will never understand this? Senderos could have been good. Sylvestre sucks.

Gallas is still good. A bitch, but still good. Toure played like shiiiite today.

Maybe Djourou can be good? Who knows? Senderos is decent, but not anymore. I dunno about Toure anymore, he looked so, average and undecicive today..

We need 2 get rid of 2 defenders and buy 2 more!! that is a fact. Get a good defensive Mid, so the def its the actual last resort, and then our so called defensive problems will be fixed!!!

  7. You are spot on Silvester i hate to say but he is just S$$%% we complained when wenger brought him but we are not a club to save peoples careers his time was up and there is no reason whatsoever for Boss to break the rules an buy someone who is over thirty he sold campel sold Gilberto, pires all these were top class but their age couldnt keep them at Arsenal why then buy this crap of a defender i really like Gibbs and i see him being a formidable left back he has height and speed he just needs to work on his timing and tackling and voila he is better than Gael ask yourself Wenger can Alex Manure boss sell you something of importance just like that it has happened before when Heinze wanted to go to Liverpool… he also said that he cant sell even a virus to real Madrid. Silvester if not injured he is making blunders he costed us the Carling cup then FA then several games. If there is someone who can take him for free please get Wenger give him out the guy has no loyalty he has the guts to say that he was demoted to play for Arsenal and Manu is a bigger, it is not far from truth but you cannot just say that of your club. SILVESTER GO AWAY WE DONT NEED YOU

  8. team doesn’t have a spine. we need strong 1 experienced player in goal (as cover for almunia) powerful defender, experienced midfielder and a 20 goal per season striker. sell ade sylvestre diaby and give wenger a further 50m to finance the requirements

  9. “Unless…

…we don’t let them, by turning up, giving our all, playing as a team and beating the fucking gloating turds so they have to do it the following week at Hull (hopefully also condemning the Stupid Orange Man to relegation).”

    A man can dream!
