Kickoff: Whenever I see Pompey play, I’m reminded of just how many former Arsenal players they have: Pennant, Campbell, who else is on the pitch?
3′ — Pompey looks like they want some points out of this and have a tame shot that’s easily saved by Fabianski. That’s followed by a lovely move from the Капитан, who plays Walcott in who plays a fizzing cross that no one gets on the end of.
6′ — Walcott plays in Mr. Useless who shoots tamely, and then Pompey comes back and Bel Hadj has a shot. Wow, end to end action, I can hardly type fast enough!
9′ — Fabianski sort of comes out, shades of his gaffes against Chelsea, you’d think he’d have learned by noow: keep your hands in the game, lad.
12′ — Vela is hauled down in the box and that almost certainly should have been given a penalty, but Arsenal score off the resulting corner when Bendtner makes great contact with the ball and David James allows the ball to dribble over the line, showing why Almunia should be England Number One.

FSC’s morning show is just as cheesey, but the commercials have actually improved.
This is by far one of the more interesting lineups I have seen in a long time, im not complaining, it will be nice to see some of our fringe players get a start. Time to see it Vela, Ramsey, and Fabianski all on the pitch can work as well today as I hope they will in a couple of years.

It is a bit annoying how much the commentators were downing the goal, sure the keeper should have gotten it, but it was a pretty nice header, and they seem to forgot that.

much better tempo to our game. maybe has something to do with the opposition, but also has to do with some players with better workrate. strange to see vela and bendtner getting after every ball after being used to seeing ade slinking around the pitch

walcott is much more active, and is spending some time wide left as well, which was what should have happened against manure when it was clear that evra had him in his pocket. theo is also coming further into the middle to pick up the ball than he was against manure.

That has always been my biggest problem with FSC. It seems like the commentators are watching the game for the first time. They criticize everything and they are at least partially wrong on just about everything.

4th is all wrapped up now. We could lose every game from now and still be 4th so there’s no pressure there. We can now put all our attention into Tuesday’s game at home to the Mancs. Both teams have their starters well rested since both fielded basically a second string team and got wins. The young ones played some slick football but again highlighted a fundamental problem in the Arsenal way – the reluctance to shoot outside the 18. Too many good passing plays end up as nothing because someone finds space on the edge of the box and opts to pass again instead of belting it goalward. As I’ve said the area outside the 18 is one we don’t use very well. Theo is fast, technical, intelligent but lacks that killer touch or killer pass – his crosses are poor for a player of his standards and he really needs to work on that for midweek. I think he did much better when he moved inside more and it’s something he has to consider against the Mancs because Fergie will no doubt deploy the same Rooney/Evra deep defending tactic to starve Theo of runs down the touchline. Arshavin looked comfortable occupying a deeper role then wha he’s used to in Cesc’s absence and he worked hard and always looked like he had time and space on the ball. Nicky got 2 braces which should boost his confidence but for me he’s still not good enough for a starter and he did well against a poor Pompey side. All in all a good result and glimpse into the future but the present is at hand and it is where we need to direct our focus.
