Following the lead of all the other bloggers who heard from a reliable source, that William Gallas’ cousin’s sister’s girlfriend read on his facebook that Arsene Wenger has stripped Gallas of the captain’s armband I too can confirm that I heard the same rumor (hey, ESPN.com is printing it, it must be true!)
I can also confirm that the same rumor mill is reporting that Gallas is going to be dropped for the match against Citeh.
If this rumor is true then both Nigel Winterburn and Perry Groves were right at the same time.

Jesus! I hope it’s true, it seems like this whole Gallas story has been like a hurricane, getting more and more intense. One things for sure, tomorrows game at City will be one of if not the mosat importnat of the season so far, probarbly more importnat than the Manure game.

Older in age, but in many ways Gallas was the youngest player at Arsenal. In his defense, though Gallas made mistakes he has been a remarkable player at times and his outburst yesterday is illuminating to say the least and informative for those who still entertain hopes of silverware with the current side. Wenger must now reconstitute the side with greater maturity and balance. No more talk of ‘several leaders on the pitch’, or ‘the spirit of the team is very good’. It’s time for honesty and a changing of the guard. The kids are admirable but it would be a catastrophic mistake and huge blunder to travel down the same primrose path and re-populate the side with our cc youth. We have not had an identifiable leader in the squad for a good spell(and Toure is over-weight). There are still many players who would love to play for us and wouldn’t cost much, Appiah, Annan, etc. Wenger, restore balance to a side that can win back the respect of the fans while you still have time. We don’t demand silverware, we want a team we can be proud of and that fights for us as we fight for them. Rebuild.

True or not, just the idea of him getting dropped and stripped feels like a weight is lifted off us.

Cesc is being touted by the media as next in line to rule the throne but I fear his youth may get in the way of earning respect from his seniors. Not many other choices though, Almunia, Toure and Clichy spring to mind with Clichy being my choice. Aside from mistakes, which all players make, he comes to play every game, is vocal and bleeds Arsenal red.

While Cesc hasn’t been at the top of his game this year (what gunner has?), he is the only choice for captain. He is, arguably, the best player. He has the respect of his teammates. He has shown loyalty in the face of rumors at every transfer window. Wenger has to do three things to restore belief in the side: 1) Make Cesc captain, 2) Admit that his singular focus on youth has been a mistake, and 3) Rectify that mistake in the January transfer window. We all know the score here. We need Flamini, but since we let him go, a Flamini clone is absolutely crucial. We need two central defenders that work well as a team. All three of these players need to possess the mental strength that comes with maturity, the ability to weather the storms of the Premier and Champions League while maintaining that never-say-die focus and desire. Without a strong statement of intent in January, I fear our chances for any trophies this year are gone, as is our hope to be playing Champions League football next year.
Please Arsene, swallow some pride.
