I can’t possibly be the only one who is sick and tired of William Gallas’ “woe is me” interviews to the press. Generally, he waits until the international week and then he either gives some dumb interview or releases a press statement on his web site. They are always about how beleaguered he is as Arsenal captain, how much everyone in the club loves him and how much he wants to win a trophy.
Yesterday’s interview is right out of the ole William Gallas playbook: route one douchebag.
Sounding like he is doing one of his infamous pre-game, midfield, “inspirational” speeches in front of thousands, and of course the cameras, he starts out calling for the youngsters to be Warriors.
We are not brave enough in battle, I think we need to be soldiers. We have to be warriors. There are teams who can do it well against us, and we have to be able to face up to these attacks.
From there he moves on to questioning his young teammates character, which is only natural and something that all great Arsenal captains have done over the years — you know, launch a craven attack on your teammates in the press
That is how they will forge their character, and how they will get experience. Even though they’ve played a certain number of matches, they’re still young and still learning. We have to understand that to be champions, you have to play big matches every weekend and fight.
But, of course, none of this is his fault he’s the one who is fixing the problems, not causing them!
When, as captain, some players come up to you and talk to you about a player … complaining about him … and then during the match you speak to this player and the player in question insults us, there comes a time where we can no longer comprehend how this can happen
I can comprehend it, I comprehend it very well: that player doesn’t respect you. And who is he?
I am trying to defend myself a bit without giving names. Otherwise I’m taking all the blame. It’s very frustrating. I’m 31, the player is six years younger than me.
So, let’s see… it could be Eboue, Sagna, Eduardo (unlikely) or van Persie, they are all 25. I’m throwing Adebayor in there too because he’s 24 and Gallas could just be dumb enough to think that Ade is 25.
But Billy isn’t to blame, Billy is to revere, look at how he handled the half time problem that erupted during the Spurs game:
There was a problem at half-time at Tottenham.The only thing that I could say at half-time was ‘Guys, we resolve these problems after the match, not at half-time.’
I can imagine it too: Gallas shaking his fists and screaming “Guys!! Come on!! WE have to be WARRIORS! WE can not be afraid!!!” Meanwhile the team is shaking their heads. But what’s truly amazing about that quote is that he meant it to illustrate what a great leader of men he is, but ARSENAL WENT ON TO DROP TWO GOALS AFTER HIS INSPIRATIONAL SPEECH. If that’s his idea of good leadership then he’s the David Brent of Arsenal captains.
And finally… he wraps up with some pap about how he wants to win trophies because it would be a personal blow to him not to win a trophy (oh and Arsenal haven’t won one either) and if he doesn’t get a trophy then, well, he might just have to leave.

If it was the first time, or the second, or the third, I might give the guy a pass, but how many times does he have to shit on his teammates to prove that he’s a horrible, horrible leader?

He may be a total Jerk, but he’s 100% correct in his assessment of the squad.
No.. he’s 100% wrong. He’s the one who has acted cowardly in the defence, he’s the one who let Agbonlahor shoulder him off the ball, he’s the one who didn’t rise to the ball against Fulham, and when it’s obvious to all the world that Almunia cannot claim balls in the box, he should be the one doing it.
When he should be accepting the failings of the team as his own, he can’t because he points fingers at everyone else.
He is a total failure as a leader and as an Arsenal player.
