Kolo hasn't got time for the pain, the rest of us will have to wait

Good morning, cocksandwiches. I just wanted to get in a quick update for those of you who are into that sort of thing.

First, and worst, Kolo shoulder injury is worse than previously thought and he’s now scheduled to be out for at least two weeks. Kolo is putting a brave face on the injury saying “I hurt my shoulder badly, it was very painful but it is a job of a defender to take pain.” As tough as he is, he still needs to sit out for 15 days. That means that Arsenal’s defense is now down to a Man U cast off, a utility player, Clichy, and some right winger. Ugh.

When Arsene loaned Senderos this summer I decried the loss of a player with his experience and ability and well… I told you so. Even with his head done in he’s at least as good as Song in the central defensive position AND he has loads of Champions League experience — more than Silvestre.

Right after the Everton match Arsene said that the defense looked shaky to start and that he feels like our defense needs to gain  confidence as games go on in order to perform. Well, I’m sorry but Song is the guy who most looks shaky right now, and if he can be nervous against a poor form Everton at the Emirates, I’m fearful he’s going to break apart against an in form Fener in the cauldron of the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.

As right as I was about Senderos, I have to apologize to all of you who were calling for Arsenal to buy another defender, you were right, this club with all of the supporters we have and the money we’re supposedly generating should not be going into a Champions League clash with Alex Song as our central defender. I have to wonder why Arsene didn’t buy a back-up defender? Why did he loan Senderos and sell Hoyte? Why didn’t he buy Appiah? What is the meaning of life? Why do I write this blog? WHO AM I???

We may never know, but we’ll find out today if Song is up to the part — I fear he isn’t. The boss, though, has no fear

I’m not worried. We have to dictate our game. We don’t have a team that is built to defend. We have a team that attacks.

(Facepalm) Ugh… Come on Arsene, defense wins championships. Record breaking defense got Arsenal to the Champions League final, you know that.

Anyway, Theo will be starting, Almunia will be captain, Silvestre will be the defensive leader, and Nasri makes a funny face when he shoots.

I’d hate to see the face I make…

Well, I need a sedative and a beer and.. oh Christ, I’m not going to make it am I? I’m going to have a nervous breakdown before the game.

Maybe I’ll be around tomorrow to write the good, bad, and ugly.

  1. do some research. silvestre has played lots more games for manu in the champions league than senderos has for arsenal. and fener in form?? take a look at the league table. aragones is almost about to get sacked.

  2. Fener won their last match coming back 3-2. It’s not exactly “in form” but it’s better form than Everton with their series of draws and losses.

And as for the number of Champions League matches, yes, I was only looking back to 2004/2005 and Senderos and Silvestre have the same number of matches in that time period. Plus Senderos has more recent experience than Silvestre, who’s last game was a 90th minute sub.

If you go back to 2001/2002 when Silvestre was in top form (8 years ago) he has more Champions League experience, it was an oversight on my part, admittedly but was a function of the ESPN Game Log page(p) for Silvestre which only goes back to 2005/2006.

Since 2005/2006 Silvestre has had a whopping 11 appearances total and Senderos has 18(p). That’s what I was quoting.

  3. Deep breaths, everyone. We are on four points after two matches, a draw today (totally doable) puts us at five points with three to play. Which means we only need five points from three matches to get to the “magic number” of ten points. I am not the least bit worried.

Get out of the group, buy a defender in January, feeling good…

  4. It sounds like it will be a punch-counterpunch kind of a match. In those types of games, we can hold our own….. Fener 2 – Arsenal 2

  5. In defense of Timothy’s “form” remark, not that he needs much help, is bolstered by Fenerbache’s home record in the CL as noted below by an AA subscriber

“The 0-0 draw with Dynamo Kiev halted Fenerbahçe’s run of 8 successive home wins in the Champions league, including last season’s wins over Chelsea (2-1), Seville (3-2), Inter (1-0), PSV (2-0), CSKA Moscow (3-0). The last away team to register a Champions league win (including both the group stages and qualifiers) in the Sükrü Saraçoglu stadium was AC Milan in the 2005-06 season with a 4-0 win.”

As the young is wont to say, “Nuff Said”.

  6. They might have been rhetorical, but:
    1. Because we’ve no money in the till
    2. Because we can make muchos money from Hoyte, and he’s not going to be first choice right back anyway.
    3. Because Appiah’s crook, wants to hide it, and refused a trial with us to prove he’s fit.
    4. 42.
    5. Because you think too much about Arsenal for your own good, and you’ve bored your friends shitless about a club they don’t know, from a country they can’t locate, in a sport that only fags and sissies play, so you need to blog to keep your sanity.
    6. Timothy, a guy from America who watches Arsenal for breakfast.

And I hope that’s not the only face he makes when he “scores”.

  8. Connolly’s Agent really needs to take some anger management and social etiquette classes.

Obviously, from his utter disdain and lack of knowledge about the “SISSY and FAG” game one can only assume he’s hiding in the closet and unsure of his masculinity. Why else would Connolly even be reading this blog, much less commenting in such ubiquitous terms.

If 90 Million in cash reserves is considered as no money in the till then your name would be Abramovich. If having the highest NOI of any football club in the world is having no money in the till, then you must be George Bush.

Connolly, freedom of speech is great, but your type is certainly not wanted here due to your diminished intellectual capacity.

    I rest my case.

  9. I think Connoly was referring to my bio where I admit to growing up in a culture that says “Soccer is ghey, HURRRR!”

I took no offense, Carib, after all Connolly runs the pinkest Arsenal blog on the net.

  10. Carib,

Unfortunately, my diminished intellectual capacity doesn’t allow me to grasp one little thing – why, if we’ve a 90 million pound surplus, we’re shopping around for free players likes Silvestre instead of buying someone who’s not such an injury-risk, or why our net transfer spending over the past couple of years is pretty well close to zero, or why our senior players are leaving for more money abroad and van Persie came out to the press and demanded higher pay brackets, or why Wenger cracked the shits over the transfer window. I read the same newsnow articles you probably do, but it doesn’t add up for me.

I mentioned that there’s a PERCEPTION that “soccer” is a game for sissies and fags. I suppose it’s too low-brow fro you, but it’s supposed to be irony. Or sarcasm, if you’d prefer, since it is the lowest form of wit, and hence, probably too coarse for you to deign to acknowledge. Apologies if you felt insulted by the prospect of being slurred as a “sissy” or a “fag” merely by enjoying the same game as one that’s perceived to be slightly less than apple-pie.

And you’re barking up the wrong tree if you’re trying to insult my masculinity. Have you even LOOKED at the colour of my blog? I do a better job without trying. That said, 5-2 to the Arsenal. I missed the game, and spent the night watching the opera in Vienna. How’s that for sissyness?
