I'm officially worried

The squad was announced ahead of tomorrow’s match and normally I don’t do an extra blog but this is big enough news that I feel like I need to share it right away. It was revealed today that Toure, Senderos, Nasri, and Fabregas all picked up injuries and will be unavailable for the match tomorrow. Add them to Eduardo, Diaby, Rosicky, and Song and I think we can confidently say (with 8 players out) that this is a thin squad. At least Wenger sees the humor in the situation when he says that we have a “big squad at home.” Har har Arsene.

The squad was named and the boss has said that Ramsey is likely to start; if he doesn’t pick up an injury tonight somehow. For the record, Arsenal are starting a 17 year old in a crucial Champions League qualifying away match against a hungry team with a hungry manager. A 17 year old who’s closest experience at this level is a cameo during an FA Cup semi-final.

It’s official, I’m getting worried.

Arsenal squad
Manuel ALMUNIA
Lukasz FABIANSKI
Bacary SAGNA
William GALLAS
Gael CLICHY
Justin HOYTE
Johan DJOUROU
Aaron RAMSEY
Jack WILSHERE
Kieran GIBBS
DENILSON
Theo WALCOTT
Emmanuel EBOUE
Mark RANDALL
Emmanuel ADEBAYOR
Robin VAN PERSIE
Nicklas BENDTNER
Carlos VELA

The lineup will probably be:

Sagna, Djourou, Gallas, Clichy

Eboue, Denilson, Ramsey, Walcott

van Persie, Adebayor

I could also see the boss playing a sort of 4-3-3 with Walcott up front since that’s what he played last week against Juventus.

What else is there to say?  Up the Arse!

  1. I am not worried but the only problem,is that we have another match on saturday and the injuries have kicked in at a very crucial period.this squad on the official side is ok,i am just worried about the substitutes.Vela is world class, because he is an international….But the likes of gibbs and randall i am abit suspicious.I am still comfident thogh, but i pray that this is a year of healthy boys not a year of injuries to our key player.

  2. Eboue BETTER not start against Twente. I don’t cxare how good or shit they are, give me Walcott and Vela on the wings ANY day.

He’s such a waste of space.

  3. I always feel that arsene take things for granted. He should by now sign a very experience midfielder and we could have not find ourselves in this mess.Infact as a matter of fact he should stop his tight fist attitude and go for either alonso or barry immediately, i cannot see how we can survive with an inexperiance midfield. Except if he want us to believe that arsenal is a training ground for players, it is highly time he understand that without any silverware this season, arsenal is finished

  4. I am worried too as I echo all the sentiments expressed. I wonder if his(Arsene) confidence in our young team is bordering on arrogance? I hope he realises that without silverware this season, his whole management effectiveness & ethos will be under more stringent scrutiny. I just pray and hope Spurs do not overtake us. Looking at the top 4 as they stand currently, we are the thinnest on the ground and therefore doesn’t bode well when injuries strike.

Now without any sort of creative midfield players in attendance on Wednesday, maybe except for Vela if he plays, how how we going to fashion out scoring chances?

I hope he gets it right. A draw will do at least and hopefully we can have a fully fit team (Eduardo & Diaby excepted)on the return leg at the Emirates.

  5. Iam very unlikey. I was at the Emirates for the first time (vs Juve) and Cesc didn’t play. Tommorow I will travel to Arnheim from my hometown in NRW (Germany) and Cesc even won’t be able to play 🙁 ;(

  6. I guess, after the initial shock, I can honestly say that I’m a bit excited. What if Ramsey puts in the performance of a lifetime? Honestly, the expectations can’t be too high. Everyone knows he’s just a 17 year old. Go out and play your heart out young fella. Score one for the Arse!

  7. Our team is young, but they are equally hungry to prove themselves….Don’t worry today’s youth is our present and future, let us get behind them.

  8. Arsene is jst an arse whose has proved 2 us beyond all reasonable doubt dat his youth policy is a failure..i tink we should sell wenger. Up arsenal kids fc.

  9. We may win this game, but this shyte is getting out of control. Time to over-achieve again boys. I’ve always liked the youth policy, it’s just that it’s over-emphasized and as a result things are starting to look dicey.

  10. It’s the Saturday game we need to worry about. WBA won the Championship League last season. That ain’t good.

I’d rather play Hull at the moment.

  11. We HAVE to promote from within! He buys young and takes his time developing and only now are the fuits being bared. Every one of us has said “RVP/Henry/Pires/Ljunberg/Veira/Eduardo/Fabregas/Kanu/Adebayor/Petit who? And all of us watched these players grow to “world star” status and witnessed other European clubs salivate and make them number one targets to make THEIR teams “the best”. When Wenger says he has faith in what he see’s coming through and what we alredy have and also what we have to come then i know that 2 years down the line we will again have the team that “everyone” wants and we will dominate AGAIN plus challenge along the way!!! Has everyone forgotten that previous to the past 2 seasons ManU(re)won only the Carling Cup in the THREE seasons when they were re-building and those plastics called for Fergusons head and that he was no longer good enough to win anything?!?!?!? Had they got their way then ManU(re) wouldn’t have a further 2 league titles and a champions league title in the cabinet! We are only just calling Clichy, RVP, Eduardo & Fabregas “world class” plus others when Wenger has known this all along and have to let star players grow to bring the others through so they’ll be experienced from a young age to get older together and to dominate for longer. We’ve had a few leave who are impatient and don’t share the vision but there has to be replacements sooner rather than later to step up and do a job. What’s the point in having a squad to develop and pick from when you’re only going to spend big and fight for NOW when you’ll be replacing those older/retiring players EVERY season with no consistancy?!?! Do we want to be Chelsea? Before the past 3 seasons we have consistantly won silverware and never finnished out of the top 2 but we’ve had to rebuild twice and moved to new surroundings since and STILL watched the best football along the way…..

  12. Arsenal fans are generally so pessimmistic. Yes, Twente are hungry and yes it wont be easy but we have at least enough in the squad chosen to grab an away goal and a draw. If Walcott, Van Persie and Adebayor link up in their usual way we will do more damage than a draw. The squad that had an average age of 19 and 6 months pulled off a draw against Sevilla in the Amsterdam Tourament. Granted, not half as much pressure but it shows that they aren’t phased by bigger names.

Besides tonight’s tie, can anyone see Twente coming back to the Emirates and getting anything less than a smashing off us? Fuck off. Bring on tonight!
