Cesc runs Frings around the Villa

Showing that they have a sense of humor, The Sun is linking Arsenal to Torsten Frings. Look, I love the guy, he’s been a rock for Germany and Werder, he loves beer, he’s German (CRAZY), his name sounds like some kind of Viking warlord, and when I used to play “soccer” on my gaming console he was AWESOME. But how realistic is it to suggest that Arsenal are going after a 31 year old? Not very, especially since the club refuses to give players over 30 more than a 1 year deal and all players over 30 want to be locked into long term deals.

As much as I’d love the big German in the middle of the park, I doubt this is going to happen.

Meanwhile, Cesc has named his own transfer target; David Villa. On the back of Villa scoring a hat trick for Spain, the Arsenal ace said

He would be amazing for the English league. I would like to have him in my team because as you can see he can make the difference. He’s an amazing player. He has mobility, he scores goals. He plays well at the back of defenders, in front of them, he’s a tremendous player.

I didn’t watch the game and I’ve only seen the YouTube videos of his three goals but they looked very Eduardo-esque if you ask me. Which brings up the point, with Adebayor, Eduardo, Walcott, Bendtner, Vela, and van Persie (and at least three players in the Youth squad promised starting spots this season) forming our 6 headed Hydra in attack, do Arsenal need another forward? I say NAY. Maybe Wenger will buy Villa to placate his midfield maestro, but if he does it will have to be at the expense of someone else.

I know, I know, “sell Adebayor!!!” No thanks, he was pretty much the only reason Arsenal finished in the top four and selling a big, burly, speedy, established EPL player to bring in an unknown Spanish player would be silly.

Another player linked to the club is Celtic goalkeeper Boric. The Mail is claiming that the “Coast is Clear for Arsenal” now that Milan has refused Celtic’s ridiculous £10m valuation. I know Almunia isn’t the best keeper Arsenal have ever had, but he’s not bad and certainly not £10m bad. Let’s face facts; a £100m keeper isn’t going to help Arsenal’s central defense deal with headers and long balls. That needs to come from the captain not the keeper.

Quote of the Day

Steve (McClaren) will tell you that he has to have the best players available and the Premier League has hurt him. In fact, I would probably go as far as to say the Premier League has probably cost him his job. Because what we’ve done, we’ve actually bought all these foreign players in.

Sir David Richards, Premier League Chairman, assclown.

That’s it, gotta run, work work work… Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Cesc scored a goal yesterday. Check it out in all its glory!

Nice. Good point (and made me laugh a bit – not sure why – could be the meds talking). Have a great day.

  2. Signing Torsten would be a great thing. They should do it, who cares if he’s 31. He’s still got it and they need experience badly. Just sign him a long term deal. It definitely won’t be too pricey, given his age. He would dramatically change things. He can control the midfield in the absence of Fabregas, and he will win headers (we all have seen Arsenal struggle to deal with set pieces). Just sign him, he fits the Arsenal mould perfectly!
